The Role

Tanglin is seeking to employ a motivated, caring supply nurse to join our established Tanglin Nursing Team when required. The team provides an outstanding level of care for both pupils and staff and is an integral part of supporting the pastoral, physical and mental health, and wellbeing of students throughout their Tanglin journey. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other teams across the school to ensure the highest levels of wellbeing in the Tanglin community.

The role reports to the Lead School Nurse.

Job Responsibilities

1.       Clinical Care and Professional Practice

• Work autonomously and collaboratively as part of the Nursing Team, maintaining professional accountability and high standards of clinical practice.
• Provide first aid, emergency medical care, assessment and treatment to students, staff and visitors, including responding to medical call-outs as required.
• Provide compassionate and appropriate support to students and staff managing chronic or serious health conditions, including signposting to relevant external services where appropriate.
• Support and advocate for students requiring mental health support, working collaboratively with families, relevant school teams and external agencies, with the student’s wellbeing at the centre of care.
• Administer medication in accordance with established protocols and maintain accurate medication and dispensing records.
• Maintain and manage students’ emergency medication held within the Health Centre.
• Promote health education and wellbeing initiatives to support students in making informed health choices.

2. Clinical Governance and Compliance

• Adhere to the Singapore Nursing Board Code of Professional Conduct, maintaining confidentiality, respecting individual rights and demonstrating professional and ethical conduct at all times.
• Comply with relevant health policies, standard operating procedures, infection control requirements and guidelines for the management of infectious diseases.
• Maintain accurate, secure and confidential medical records and communications in accordance with established procedures.
• Report and document accidents, incidents and medical matters accurately and in accordance with School procedures.
• Ensure the safe handling and disposal of clinical waste in accordance with established procedures.

3. Health Centre Operations

• Conduct routine checks of medical equipment and ensure equipment is maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of medical supplies and stock within the Health Centre.
• Maintain and replenish First Aid kits, emergency supplies and AED equipment across the School.
• Manage administrative requirements relating to student health, including medical forms, health information and vaccination records.

4. Communication and Collaboration

• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, colleagues and other members of the School community regarding health and wellbeing matters.
• Work collaboratively with the Nursing Team and relevant School departments to ensure continuity and consistency of student care.
• Liaise appropriately with families, healthcare providers and external agencies where additional medical or wellbeing support is required.

5. School Trips and Outdoor Education

• Support teaching and Outdoor Education teams in the management of student medical information and the preparation of appropriate First Aid kits, medication and medical supplies for day and residential trips.
• Accompany residential trips as agreed with the Lead Nurse and in accordance with the School’s trip schedule, providing appropriate healthcare and wellbeing support to students and staff in consultation with the Trip Leader.

Professional Development

• To understand the importance of professional accountability and recognise individual responsibility for personal and professional development.
• To ensure that personal knowledge and skills meet the requirements of the post and they are in line with current evidence-based practice.
• On an annual basis complete the Review and Development exercise and undertake identified development opportunities. Maintain an accurate and up to date record of all Professional Development opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities

• Be responsible for reporting any concerns about a child to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Requirements

• Register Nurse qualification.
• Registered with Singapore Nursing Board essential.
• Minimum 3 – 5 years of relevant working experience.
• PC literate (MS Excel and Word).
• Familiar with caring for school aged children, knowledge of wellness and health education programmes an advantage.
• Pleasant personality with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as a good team player with good initiative.
